Whey Nation Shilajit Essential Extract — Himalayan Resin, 30g / 50 Serves

The traditional form of shilajit: a pure mineral resin, ethically harvested from the Himalayas in Gilgit Baltistan at 16,000 to 18,000 feet, then formulated and packaged in New Zealand. 30g, 50 serves. In stock at TopDog Nutrition.

What Shilajit Is and Where It Comes From

Shilajit is a mineral pitch that seeps from rock faces in high mountain ranges, formed over centuries as plant material is compressed between rock layers. It's collected by hand in the warmer months, then purified and concentrated.

Altitude matters to quality, which is why the sourcing detail is worth stating. Gilgit Baltistan sits in the Karakoram range in northern Pakistan, and 16,000 to 18,000 feet is genuinely high-altitude collection. Higher altitude sources are traditionally considered more potent, with a higher fulvic acid content and lower contamination risk.

In Ayurvedic medicine shilajit is classed as a rasayana, a rejuvenating substance associated with vitality and longevity, and it's been used that way for centuries.

The Active Components

  • Fulvic acid. The primary marker of shilajit quality. It acts as a mineral carrier, improving cellular uptake of the minerals it's bound to, and has antioxidant activity of its own.
  • Dibenzo-alpha-pyrones. Compounds studied for their role in supporting mitochondrial function. Mitochondria are where cells produce ATP, so this is the mechanism behind shilajit's association with energy and stamina.
  • Trace minerals. Shilajit naturally carries a broad spread, delivered in a food-based form rather than as isolated mineral salts.

Resin or Gummies?

Genuinely different products for different people.

Resin is the traditional and more concentrated form. At 50 serves from 30g you're getting a substantially higher dose per serve than any gummy, at better value per gram. The catch is the experience: shilajit resin is a sticky, tar-like substance with a strong bitter, earthy, smoky taste. You scoop a pea-sized amount with a clean utensil and dissolve it in warm water or milk.

Gummies trade concentration for palatability. Less per serve, more per dollar, but you'll actually take them daily.

Shilajit works through consistent use over weeks rather than acutely, so be honest with yourself about which one you'll still be taking in a month. If the taste won't bother you, resin is the better product. If it will, gummies beat a jar of resin sitting unused.

How to Take Resin

Take a pea-sized portion, roughly 300–500mg, using a clean dry utensil. Dissolve it in warm water, milk or tea — not boiling, since excessive heat may degrade the active compounds. Stir until fully dissolved.

It's easier to work with when slightly warm. If the resin has firmed up in cold weather, sitting the jar in warm water for a minute softens it.

Use a dry utensil every time. Introducing moisture into the jar affects the resin over time.

Realistic Expectations

Give it several weeks of consistent daily use. Shilajit supports cellular energy production over time rather than producing an acute lift, and anything promising a same-day effect is overselling it.

Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare professional before use if you take medication or have a medical condition, particularly haemochromatosis, since shilajit contains iron.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it taste like?

Strongly bitter, earthy and smoky. There's no getting around it, and it's the main reason people switch to gummies. Dissolving it in milk or tea rather than water helps.

How much do I take?

A pea-sized portion, roughly 300–500mg, once daily. 30g gives 50 serves at that rate.

Why does altitude matter?

Higher-altitude sources are traditionally associated with higher fulvic acid content and lower contamination risk. Gilgit Baltistan at 16,000 to 18,000 feet is a genuinely high-altitude source.

Is resin better than capsules or gummies?

More concentrated and better value per gram, yes. Better in practice only if you'll actually keep taking it, given the taste.

Why has my resin gone hard?

Normal. Shilajit firms up in cold temperatures and softens in warmth. Sit the jar in warm water for a minute before scooping.
