USN Casein Night Time Protein

USN Casein Night Time Protein 800g — 25g+ Slow-Release Protein for Overnight Recovery

Casein Night Time Protein delivers over 25g of slow-release casein per serve with naturally occurring BCAAs and EAAs, plus Aminogen® digestive enzymes. Built for the seven or eight hours you spend asleep, which is the longest stretch your body goes without protein. 800g. In stock at TopDog Nutrition.

Why Casein Behaves Completely Differently to Whey

This isn't marketing positioning. The two proteins behave differently in the stomach, and it's measurable.

Whey stays liquid and empties quickly, producing a sharp spike in blood amino acids within about an hour that then returns to baseline. Casein does the opposite. In the acidic environment of the stomach it forms a gel, and that gel breaks down slowly, releasing amino acids gradually over several hours.

Lower peak, far longer duration. For a protein you take before bed, duration is the only thing that matters.

The Overnight Window

Sleep is when the adaptation from training actually happens. Growth hormone release peaks during slow-wave sleep, and muscle protein synthesis runs through the night.

The problem is fuel. You finish dinner, then go seven or eight hours with no amino acids arriving. Research on pre-sleep protein consistently shows that supplying protein before bed increases overnight muscle protein synthesis rates rather than simply being stored or wasted.

A whey shake before bed is largely cleared within two hours. Casein covers the window it was designed for.

Aminogen® Digestive Enzymes

A genuinely useful inclusion rather than label decoration. Aminogen® is a patented enzyme complex that helps break protein down into absorbable amino acids and peptides.

It matters more with casein than with whey. Casein's whole mechanism is forming a gel that digests slowly, which also means a larger digestive load sitting in your stomach overnight. Enzymes support more complete breakdown, which improves absorption and reduces the heaviness some people feel from a pre-bed protein shake.

Who Benefits Most

• Anyone training hard. Recovery happens overnight, and the overnight window is the largest uncovered gap in most people's protein intake.
• Anyone cutting. Preserving lean mass in a deficit means keeping amino acids available, and the satiety helps with late-night hunger.
• Anyone struggling to hit a protein target. A pre-bed shake adds 25g without displacing a meal.

Directions

Mix one serve with 200–300ml of cold water or milk, 30–60 minutes before bed.

Milk is worth considering here. It adds calories, but milk protein is itself roughly 80% casein, which extends the release even further.

Casein is thicker than whey when mixed. That's the gel-forming property doing exactly what it should.

Allergens

Contains milk. Check the label for flavour-specific allergen information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it post-workout instead of whey?

You can, but you'd be choosing the slower protein for the moment speed matters most. Post-training, a fast protein is the better fit. Casein's advantage is the overnight window.

Will it keep me awake or feel heavy?

Most people find it fine 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The Aminogen® enzymes support more complete digestion, which helps. If it does sit heavily, take it earlier or mix it thinner.

Is it worth having both casein and whey?

Plenty of people do, and the logic is sound. Whey after training when speed matters, casein before bed when duration does. They solve different problems.

Why is it thicker than whey?

Casein gels, which is the mechanism behind the slow release. Thicker texture is the feature working, not a mixing fault.
