Tingle-Free by Design

Almost every pre-workout on the market contains beta-alanine, and almost every one gives you paraesthesia — the pins-and-needles crawl across your face, neck and hands. It's harmless, and plenty of people take it as proof the product is working.

PEScience left it out deliberately. Beta-alanine works through chronic accumulation, raising intramuscular carnosine over weeks of daily dosing — it does essentially nothing acutely, on the day you take it. Putting it in a pre-workout means you feel something dramatic while getting a benefit that has nothing to do with that session.

If you want beta-alanine, take it daily on its own schedule. Prolific spends its formula space on ingredients that actually work in the session you're about to train.

6g Pure L-Citrulline — Not Citrulline Malate

An important distinction most brands blur. Citrulline malate is citrulline bound to malic acid, and depending on the ratio, only around 55–65% of that gram total is actual citrulline. A label claiming "6g citrulline malate" delivers roughly 3.5–4g of the active compound.

Prolific uses 6g of pure L-citrulline. All 6g is citrulline. Research puts the effective range at 3–6g for raising plasma arginine and nitric oxide production, so this sits at the top of it — and does it more efficiently than supplementing arginine directly, since arginine is largely broken down in the gut before it reaches circulation.

More nitric oxide means wider blood vessels, better blood flow, more oxygen and nutrients delivered to working muscle, and faster clearance of metabolic byproducts like ammonia during high-volume work.

320mg Caffeine From Two Sources

The caffeine comes from caffeine anhydrous and dicaffeine malate, and the split is the point.

Caffeine anhydrous absorbs fast, giving you the onset within 20–30 minutes.

Dicaffeine malate is caffeine bound to malic acid, which slows absorption and extends the release. It's also generally easier on the stomach than a straight anhydrous dose.

The result is a strong 320mg total that comes on quickly and then holds, rather than spiking hard and dropping you 90 minutes later. This is a serious dose — roughly three coffees — so treat it accordingly.

The Nootropic Stack

• L-Theanine — the amino acid from tea leaves that promotes alpha brain wave activity. Paired with caffeine it produces calm, focused alertness instead of a wired, scattered feeling. One of the most reliably replicated findings in the nutrition literature.

Start with half a serve. 320mg is a high caffeine dose and there's no reason to find your ceiling on the first go. Don't take it within 6–8 hours of bed, and count your total daily caffeine across coffee and anything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 320mg of caffeine too much?

It's high. Most healthy adults tolerate up to about 400mg daily across all sources, so a full serve of Prolific uses most of that budget. If you drink coffee through the day, take half a scoop.

Why no beta-alanine?

Because it doesn't work acutely. Beta-alanine raises muscle carnosine over weeks of consistent daily use — the tingle you feel is a nerve response, not the benefit. Taking it in a pre-workout you use three days a week is a poor way to dose it.

Does it contain creatine?

No. If creatine is part of your programme, take it separately — daily, including rest days, since it works through muscle saturation rather than acute effect.
