Why Vitamin C Is the Ingredient That Matters Most

This is the part most collagen products skip, and it's not optional chemistry.

Your body cannot synthesise collagen without vitamin C. It's a required cofactor for the enzymes prolyl and lysyl hydroxylase, which stabilise the collagen triple helix. Without adequate vitamin C, collagen synthesis simply fails — this is the mechanism behind scurvy, which is a collagen disease.

So a collagen supplement without vitamin C is supplying raw material to a factory that can't process it. Including both is what makes this formula coherent rather than just a list.

The Rest of the Formula

• Hydrolysed collagen. Hydrolysis breaks collagen into short peptide chains, which absorb far better than intact collagen. Specific peptide fragments also appear to act as signals, prompting your own fibroblasts to increase collagen production rather than simply supplying material.
• Biotin. Vitamin B7, involved in keratin production. Keratin is the structural protein in hair and nails, which is why biotin turns up in every beauty formula. Worth being realistic: biotin supplementation shows the clearest results in people who are deficient.
• Hyaluronic acid. A molecule that holds up to a thousand times its weight in water, occurring naturally in skin and joint fluid. It supports skin hydration and joint lubrication, and it works alongside collagen rather than duplicating it — collagen provides structure, hyaluronic acid provides moisture.

Why Collagen Declines

Your body's own collagen production starts falling from your mid-twenties and keeps declining, roughly 1% a year. Sun exposure, smoking, high sugar intake and chronic stress all accelerate it.

That decline is what shows up as reduced skin elasticity, weaker nails and stiffer joints. Dietary collagen peptides supply both the amino acids and the signalling fragments your body uses to rebuild.

Realistic Timelines

Skin, hair and nail changes from collagen typically appear at around 8 to 12 weeks of consistent daily use. Joint benefits often take longer.

Nobody sees results from three weeks of inconsistent dosing, and the research reflects that. If you're going to take collagen, commit to a few months of it — which is exactly why the gummy format is worth the premium over a powder you'll abandon.

Directions

Take as directed on the label, daily. Timing is flexible.

Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding without professional advice. Collagen is animal-derived, so check the label if you follow a vegan or vegetarian diet.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long before I see results?

8 to 12 weeks of daily use for skin, hair and nails. Joints generally take longer.

Is it vegan?

Collagen is animal-derived, so no. There is no such thing as vegan collagen — plant-based alternatives supply nutrients that support your own production rather than collagen itself.

Do I need the vitamin C?

Yes, genuinely. Vitamin C is a required cofactor for collagen synthesis. A collagen product without it is missing the part that makes the rest work.

Gummies or a collagen powder?

Powders carry a much larger collagen dose per serve, typically 10g or more. Gummies carry less but get taken consistently. Since collagen needs months of daily use, the format you'll stick with matters.

Are they sugar free?

Yes.
