Three Whey Sources

All whey, at three different filtration levels — and each digests at a different speed.

Concentrate is filtered to roughly 70–80% protein, retaining more lactose and fat. Creamier, moderate digestion speed. Isolate is filtered to around 90% or above, with most lactose and fat removed — faster and leaner. Hydrolysate is partially pre-digested into shorter peptide chains, making it the fastest-absorbing form available.

Blending them gives you a fast initial amino spike followed by a longer release, rather than the single curve a one-source protein produces.

10g of BCAAs and EAAs

This is a substantial number, and it's worth understanding what it means.

There are nine essential amino acids — ones your body can't produce. BCAAs are three of them: leucine, isoleucine and valine. Building muscle protein requires all nine, so a formula listing EAAs alongside BCAAs is describing the complete requirement rather than just the trigger.

Leucine is what actually initiates muscle protein synthesis, activating the mTOR pathway. The rest supply the raw material. Whey naturally carries one of the highest BCAA profiles of any protein source, which is why the number is achievable without heavy free-form addition.

MCT and CLA — Unusual in a Protein

MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) are absorbed differently to normal dietary fats. They bypass the standard lymphatic route and travel straight to the liver, where they're rapidly converted to energy rather than stored. Fast, usable fuel, and a fat source associated with satiety.

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a naturally occurring omega-6 fatty acid found in dairy fat and ruminant meat, studied for its role in fat metabolism and lean muscle preservation. Your body can't produce it, and getting a meaningful amount from food means eating a lot of full-fat dairy.

Neither turns a protein powder into a fat burner — be realistic about that. What they do is add metabolism-relevant ingredients to a product you're taking daily anyway.

Digestive Enzymes

A practical inclusion rather than a marketing one. A meaningful number of people get bloating or discomfort from whey — some of it lactose, some simply the volume of protein arriving at once.

Digestive enzymes help break the protein down more completely, supporting absorption and reducing the undigested material reaching the lower gut. If whey has given you trouble before, an enzyme-containing formula is worth trying before writing whey off.

Mix one scoop with 200–300ml of cold water or milk. Shake or blend until smooth.

They support fat metabolism, but neither creates fat loss — that requires a calorie deficit. Treat them as useful additions to a protein you're taking anyway, not as a reason to buy it.

To support protein breakdown and absorption, and to reduce the bloating some people get from whey. Genuinely useful if concentrate has upset you before.

Is 10g of BCAAs and EAAs high?
