Raiseys Taurine
Raiseys Taurine 200g — Cell Volumisation, Mineral Transport, Nerve Function
Taurine is the second most abundant amino acid in human muscle after glutamine, and it does a job no other amino acid does. Highly soluble, unflavoured, and easy to add to anything you're already drinking. 200g. In stock at TopDog Nutrition.
What Taurine Actually Does
Taurine is unusual among amino acids: it isn't used for protein synthesis. Your body doesn't build tissue out of it. Instead it works as a functional molecule, and the roles it plays are ones nothing else covers:
- Stabilising cell membranes — taurine is an osmolyte, helping regulate the fluid balance across cell membranes. That's the mechanism behind cell volumisation and part of why it's associated with muscle fullness.
- Transporting minerals — moving calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium in and out of cells. Those are the electrolytes muscle contraction and nerve signalling depend on, so taurine sits upstream of both.
- Regulating nerve impulses — taurine has a modulating effect on the nervous system, which is why it appears in both energy drinks and evening recovery formulas.
It's stored in high concentrations in skeletal muscle, white blood cells, the central nervous system and heart muscle — the tissues where electrical signalling and fluid balance matter most.
Why It's Conditionally Essential
Your body makes taurine, so under normal circumstances you don't need it from food. But production can fall short of demand under physical stress — hard training, illness, restricted diets — which is what "conditionally essential" means. Enough most of the time, not enough when you're pushing.
Dietary taurine comes mainly from meat, fish and dairy. Vegetarians and vegans have measurably lower intake, which makes supplementation more relevant for them than for most.
Two Ways to Use It
Taurine is one of the few supplements with a genuine case for use at opposite ends of the day:
Before training — for cell volumisation, mineral transport and the electrolyte support that muscle contraction depends on. It stacks naturally with L-Citrulline Malate for pump work, since the two support cell volume by different mechanisms.
Before bed — for the nervous system modulating effect. Taurine's calming action on nerve impulses is why it turns up in evening recovery formulas as well as pre-workouts.
Raiseys recommend either timing depending on what you're after.
Why Unflavoured Matters
Taurine is highly soluble and disappears into anything — water, a protein shake, a pre-workout, an electrolyte drink. Buying it as a raw ingredient means you control the dose rather than accepting whatever a pre-made formula included, and you can add it to a stack you've already built.
It also means no sweeteners, no colours and no flavour system you're paying for.
Directions
Mix with water or add to your existing supplements. Take before training, or before bed, depending on which effect you're after.
Stimulant-free, so timing is unrestricted and there's nothing to clash with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is taurine a stimulant?
No. It appears in energy drinks alongside caffeine, which causes the confusion, but taurine itself has no stimulant effect — if anything its nervous system action is calming, which is why it's also used before bed.
Do I need it if I eat meat?
Meat, fish and dairy all supply taurine, so a mixed diet covers baseline needs. The case for supplementing is under heavy training load, where your own production may not keep pace with demand.
Can I take it with creatine?
Yes, and they complement each other — both support cell volumisation by different mechanisms. Creatine draws water into muscle cells; taurine helps regulate the membrane balance that holds it there.
Will it help with cramping?
Possibly. Taurine's role in transporting calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium in and out of cells puts it upstream of muscle contraction. Cramping has multiple causes, so it isn't guaranteed.
Does it taste of anything?
Very little, and it dissolves easily. It disappears into a flavoured drink completely.
